Veteran organization Honor Up formed to assist local Veterans
First Event to assist Local Family of SFC Bell US Army
(Montgomery, TX, July 10, 2023)– Serving our Veteran community is something Chris Sadler of Honor Café, the military themed restaurant in Conroe, is at the heart of what he does. Opened three years ago, Chris Sadler, a Marine Veteran wanted to leave his family a legacy while focusing on his customer base of retired military veterans.
Shortly after opening he noticed veterans would come into Honor Café without eating. These senior veterans were trying to get by and could not afford to purchase food. He remedied that by helping them out through his own resources. Veteran suicides are also heavy on his heart.
“I want to make sure no one gets forgotten, or left behind,” Sadler said.
To that end, he has organized a nonprofit-Honor Up to assist Veterans with raising funds for necessary items they need to survive, both for themselves and their families.
Their tagline is When you See a Veteran in Need, Bring Them Up. We Honor Up.
Honor Up’s first fundraiser is Saturday, July 15 starting at 5:30pm at Honor Café to assist the family of Brodie Bell, the son of SFC Michael Bell, 2-time combat veteran, US Army Recruiter at the Conroe Recruiting Station. At the age of 3 Brodie was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, called Duchenne.
The funds will help to offset costs of handicap accessible features and to purchase an electric wheelchair with stand assist to allow Brodie independence as a 16-year-old.
“We want our son to have the independence he deserves and needs as a 16-year-old,” Said SFC Bell. “Nothing devastates me more than to see him cry when dropping a plate and breaking it screaming “I just wish I could walk!” We try to give him a “normal” life as a teenager but there are things that we as parents can’t provide other than prayers.
“With the support from “Honor Up” we have hope that most of his challenges of independency will be restored. Cooking with his mom in the kitchen or transferring himself to and from his own bed, shower, etc. Brodie has mentioned to us multiple times that when he acquires his electric wheelchair, he can’t wait to do the dishes once again! Brodie has a very pure heart and only wants to help others but is limited. The strength behind “Honor Up” and all the other supporters gives my family hope once again. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
