TOMBALL REMEMBERS 9-11 ANNIVERSARY WITH DOWNTOWN CEREMONY AND ACTIVITIES
The City of Tomball and the Tomball Rotary Club have joined to remember the 20th anniversary of 9-11 with a downtown ceremony on the morning of September 11th.
The morning event will begin with a procession of First Responders from the City of Tomball and neighboring agencies who will walk from the Tomball Community Center to the event site at the downtown Depot railroad museum. The procession will be led by a combined color guard from Tomball Fire and Police, and bagpiper from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
A special flag ceremony will follow at 8:46 a.m. with the raising and lowering to half-staff of the official 9-11 20th anniversary flag that will fly throughout the weekend.
A short remembrance service will be held at the Depot Railroad Museum with a rendition of “Taps” performed by Tomball Police officer, David Sparks. A fly-over by a vintage COBRA helicopter is scheduled during the ceremony.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Tomball Rotary Club will provide a free barbecue lunch for first responders, veterans and active duty military personnel who visit the downtown Depot event grounds. The general public may purchase a meal with proceeds going to charities supported by Tomball Rotary.
The sky above downtown Tomball will be illuminated both Friday night, September 10, and Saturday night, September 11, as two side-by-side search lights cast parallel beams of light into the night symbolic of the Twin Towers that fell on 9-11. The search lights will burn from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. both nights overseen by representatives of the Tomball Police Department, Tomball Fire Department, Northwest Community Health (NWEMS) and other agencies.
The 9-11 Remembrance will be held at 201 South Elm Street in downtown Tomball. Parking and admission are free. For more information, please visit “Tomball Texan For Fun” on Facebook, or www.tomballtx.gov. Tomball is just 28 miles northwest of downtown Houston on FM 2920 at Highway 249.
